Bitwarden offers a free tier that covers unlimited passwords, unlimited devices, and basic two-factor authentication. The Premium plan costs $10 per year, which works out to about $0.83 per month. The Family plan is $40 per year for up to 6 users.

The price gap is significant. Bitwarden Premium costs roughly one-third of 1Password’s individual plan. For families, Bitwarden’s Family plan costs about the same as one month of 1Password’s individual plan. If budget is a factor, this round is not close.

There is also the question of what happens if you stop paying. With 1Password, you lose access to all features and your vault becomes read-only. With Bitwarden, the free tier remains fully functional. You do not lose access to your passwords if you cancel Bitwarden Premium. This is not a fatal flaw. Bitwarden does everything 1Password does, just with more friction in the process.
